I think that one of the best baseball rivalries is Kosy vs Houston. What do you think?

I think it's getting up there for sure with how strong the two programs have become.

Oh okay. But people are coming to watch and everything. Like a regular game. Just not as long

Oh yeah, I'd expect a good crowd. It'll be like a game, but it will be a controlled scrimmage if I had to guess.

They have that scrimmage game next Friday like they had last year

Oh, gotcha. I could care less honestly who wins a scrimmage. Scrimmages are more for working out things amongst your team and practicing plays. Scoreboard doesn't matter.

Who are you predicting to win in the south and pontotoc Game?

I don't believe South Pontotoc and Pontotoc play one another this year.

You think that north and Pontotoc has a better rivalry than south and north or maybe even south and pontotoc even though it's not a real game?

From what I've seen in the past, yes. Obviously rivalries change their intensity over time, but as of now that North & Pontotoc game has been great.

Gotta put Lafayette and Oxford on that rival list.

AHHH DARN IT! Totally forgot the Crosstown Classic. You're absolutely right. That game is right up there.

No, I'd like to know why those are the best rivalries?

The Number 1 thing that cultivates a 'rivalry' is the ill-will the two schools, towns, communities have for one another. When the game is on, the way the two fan bases and teams battle each other says everything about a great rivalry. If you go to any of those games I listed, you'll see why they are such great rivalry games. That's what makes them the best.

What is the best rivalry in north Mississippi? Not just football all sports

That's a really good question. I'm not sure if there's one that is the best but there's a 1a, 1b, 1c, etc.
Here are the best rivalries in my book:
Starkville-West Point
North Pontotoc-Pontotoc
Aberdeen-Amory
Ripley-New Albany
Louisville-Noxubee
Booneville-Baldwyn
Calhoun City-Bruce
Eupora-East Webster
Noxapater-Nanih Waiya
If I had to pick my 4 favorites from this group...
1a. Noxapater-Nanih Waiya
1b. Eupora-East Webster
1c. Calhoun City-Bruce
1d. Louisville-Noxubee

So the real question is, City or Bruce this year?

You're not tricking me into picking that game yet!! I've had a couple people ask me, but there's just no way I can pick right now. Both teams are going to be so good this year. That I know for sure.

What do you think about Baldwyn's football this year? Whose going to be the key players?

I think I've answered about 50 questions about Baldwyn football so I'm going to let you scroll down and find my answers to all those questions!

you think Columbus falcons we be good?

I really hope so and I think there is tremendous potential now with Coach Montgomery. He's going to get the best out of his players and the system that he uses. They lose some great seniors but the guys coming up have a chance to be great. They'll be fighting it out for that 4th and final playoff spot in 2-6A.

What do you think about the senior baseball boys at east webster such as Derek Jones and Braden Harrison?

I really like Derek. I think he has a bright future. I think Braden got better as the season came along last year and really developed into his own. Both are going to have great senior years.

How's smithville football looking? Better Than expected?

They are. I answered a question about them farther down. Check it out!

Who was it that won in 2011, Nanih Waiya or Noxapater?

Noxapater won, thrashed NW actually. 42-14. I came away stunned. Pater went on to win the State Title that year!

In honor of school today what's your favorite high school sports memory?

Good question. I have so many great high school sports memories. It's so hard to just single out one. If I had to pick, it would be in 2011 when I covered the Noxapater-Nanih Waiya rivalry game. Up until that point, I never fully comprehended what football meant to these communities in the state of Mississippi. After that night, I knew what it meant. Plus, the energy and passion for that game with the amazing plays to kick off that contest made it something I'll never forget. A close second is being in attendance for Weir's final home football game before consolidating with Ackerman. Such an emotional night but getting to be there was an amazing honor and privilege.

How do you think East Webster gets tough? Through hard practices or what?

I think it's a culture and what the community expects of the kids. East Webster is very similar to Smithville. Going through the tornado and how difficult it was to clean up and rebuild made both communities tougher and stronger. That characteristic harder to find these days but it's an attribute that's incredibly special.
