Uhhh WILD, CRAZY, RIDICULOUS? What an amazing comeback from the Toppers against one of the top teams in 5A. Houston is quickly cementing itself as one of the teams to beat in 4A North.

Oh boy, that's a tough question. I don't want to show any favoritism, but my ladies from Eupora are awesome. I actually went out of my way to cover a football game at Eupora last year just because they're so cool. My other favs: Bruce, French Camp, Columbus, New Hope, Louisville, Mantachie, East Webster, Nanih Waiya and of course Smithville.

I think the Trojan baseball team could be the team to beat in 2A North. Gotta go through East Union, Baldwyn, and Calhoun City still...but they've been impressive thus far. Softball team is looking better this past week.

Oh absolutely. DJ is a monster. Probably the best pure softball player we have in the state. I actually got to see them play today against a team from Florida that took it to them pretty good but they won't face a team like that the rest of the year. Yeah if they don't win 5A I'll be shocked with the talent they have. I love Coach Holman. The energy she brings on the sidelines is outstanding. The team feeds off of what she's doing to get the team revved up.
Who are Vardaman's two best pitchers??
That's a good question. I haven't seen enough of Vardaman to know of their roster pretty extensively. I hope to catch a game soon!

Ahh gotcha. I think they're capable of getting to the playoffs. They were pretty young last year and they have one of the toughest kids around in Wesley Ross coming back.
How do you think Booneville's baseball team is going to do this year?
They're already looking great thus far. When you got guys like Andrew Lambert and Daniel Calvery you can go anywhere.
Were you surprised New Hope girls didn't win state in 5A basketball?
Very. I think they caught some bad breaks and some difficult officiating against South Jones. Another day and another time they probably would've won. That team was incredibly talented.
Do you think Vardaman Baseball has a chance to go to playoffs this year?
It's gonna be really tough with that division (TCPS, Hamilton, Smithville) but yeah I definitely think they have a chance.

Who do you like to contend in 4A North baseball & softball? And what did you think of IAHS girls run to the 4A state championship in basketball?
4A North in baseball is going through West Lauderdale. They're the real deal. While they're not an area team, I've seen and heard about them and they're legit. Outside of WL I'm looking at Houston and Kosciusko being the two teams to compete in 4A North. Caledonia, Pontotoc, and New Albany are in the mix.
4A South in softball is going through Houston as always. Lafayette and Amory will have a say as well along with Pontotoc.
Itawamba's run in girls basketball was nothing short of extraordinary. Devin Hill did an unbelievable job with that team and I really enjoyed watching them play towards the end of the season. They could do it all again next year!

What do you think will be the weak points on itawamba ahs football team this year
For right now, I'd probably say the receiving corps and the offensive line. Losing Ethan Orr plus Ward, Green and King as receivers is a pretty big loss. But like I said, the Indians were extremely young last year and probably a year ahead of schedule in terms of wins. This year, I think they could be the breakout team to watch in 4A.
What about Mantachie havin a pitcher that signed with icc and can't even win a game? Is that a bad choice by rick collier?
I assume you mean Nick Burns and I have no second guesses on Nick signing with ICC. He's a tremendous athlete and a special kid. Just because the team isn't winning doesn't mean Nick is a bad player.
How do you think booneville boys basketball will be since they are going to be so young next season?
That's a great question. For one, I think having Michael Smith as your head coach means you're going to compete for Championships regardless of how young you are. For my money, he's one of the best basketball coaches in the state. Obviously losing Jack and Caver plus Bonner Powell hurts but that freshman class is going to be special. Cam Miller has an extremely bright future so I still think the Blue Devils are good enough to compete for a title again next year. One problem is that Velma Jackson is ridiculously good so if they want to win 3A they have to go through the Falcons from 3A South.
What about south Pontotocs new football coaches?
Michael Bradley is the new head coach at South Pontotoc. I've always been a huge fan of Coach Bradley. He's a no nonsense type of coach. He's gonna be tough for the kids to adjust to but he will turn you into a winner. He did that at New Hope.
