How do you think Starkville high will be in football with the consolidation?

Not sure the consolidation does much since they already had their team set in the spring so take that out of the equation. As a whole, Starkville is truly a QB away from being the best team in the state. If they can get that straightened out and have a guy that can toss it around, they'll be right up there with South Panola, Oxford and Meridian.

Does Starkville high baseball have any D1 talent on the team for this year?

AJ Brown, definitely. Just because he's so athletic and can run down any ball in the outfield. Outside of AJ, I think you have plenty of players that could play JUCO but will have to work there way up to playing D1.

Couldn't really tell from the limited time that I spent visiting with the Eagles but I can tell you that people who sleep on the Eagles just because they lost Trey and Rusty and Lamontae are making a major mistake. They've got some players and athletes there.

What do you think about calhoun city being 3rd in their region?

To be quite honest, I could see any team finishing anywhere in Region 4-2A. It's the SEC West of high school football. If City finishes in 3rd, I wouldn't be surprised if East Webster and Winona were ahead of them. But truly, every team in 4-2A could win it or finish in last. It's that close.

I think Caledonia is just getting warmed up in softball. They had such a great run to end the season that even with Coach Elmore leaving they have momentum and talent returning to make for a great 2016.

Unfortunately we do not. We have so many teams to focus on for varsity that we keep our attention that way. But for those guys on JV, use that as momentum to get our coverage and praise when you make it to the varsity level!

I agree with you, it could be characterized as a rebuilding season for Saltillo. But they still have good pieces returning and I really like Clayton Knight at QB. I think they'll still compete for a playoff spot.

I hope they'll have a good season, especially in Greg Davis' first season as coach. Losing Corbin White hurts a great deal. He was a big part of the team last season but they've got some good pieces returning.

coach Maddox always says that though. like hes been high on every team since he's took over as the head coach and they've never made it past the 2nd or 3rd round of the playoffs. Im calling it that they will barely, if not at all, make it to the playoffs this year.

This is certainly more of a transitional season for Booneville but I've talked to Coach Mattox every season for the last four years and this is the first time where I've spoken to him and he's been giddy about his team together as a unit. That tells me they've got something brewing there. Maybe not for this year but definitely in the future.

Do you think Brieton Sykes will play D1 football. If so, who do you think he will get offers from?

He told me a few weeks ago that MSU, Southern Miss and Memphis are the big ones that have offered. I think he's an SEC talent, no question. But if he follows Jerrick Orr at Memphis those two could be big time with the Tigers. So to answer your question, yes he's definitely a D1 guy. Just a matter of where he wants to go.

How do you think Nanih Waiya will do in football this year

I'm cautiously optimistic about Nanih Waiya. Losing Jamarlo will really hurt but the emergence of Chris Smith has been big time over the course of the last year. Plus I think Ryan Keeton is going to give a new energy that this team needs going forward. Wouldn't expect NW to have a down season this year.

This is the Jackets' year to really make a statement in baseball. Just three seniors graduate and they have a super deep junior class that are now seniors. Last year they had bright spots here and there that showed they could be really good in 2016 and I think we'll see that this upcoming season.

I think people will be pleasantly surprised how good Eupora will be this season. A lot will be made of losing Trey Pittman, Lamontae Salley, Rusty Johnson, names such as those. But there's a hungry senior class back and I think the Eagles are going to be one to watch for many years to come with Stephen Edwards as the new head coach. Really like him a lot.

I think Houston is poised for a breakout season. Reminds me a lot of their 2012 season with Chris Jones. Senior heavy, talented skill guys and a want to make a deep run. This could be their year.
