I didn't get a chance to see it but I heard that Hamilton looked really good. I'd watch out for the Lions. May be a team to watch in the playoffs.
What do you like about the matchup of Houston and Amory this weekend?
I would favor Houston because of the power they have at the plate. It's really going to come down to Amory's pitching staff and how they hold up to the Toppers' power at the dish. If Gunnar, Austin, Ryan and Aubrey can handle Houston and keep them between 3-5 runs a night...they'll have a chance at pulling off what I consider to be a pretty big upset.

How do you think Hatley softball will do next year since they will be losing 6 seniors
It is somewhat of a concern but I would not even be thinking about next year with the kind of season that Hatley is having THIS year. Between them and East Webster it's going to be a heck of a fight in 2A North to go to the State Championship!
Blayde pitch a inning and strike out 3 up and 3 down and he hit and Smithville lost I think smithville pitch every body one inning before the play offs. Are you going come Thursday the play off game at smithville?
I don't think we are going to make it on Thursday but I'm expecting them to win their 1st round series vs. Jumpertown so we will see them in the next round!
Do you see potential in the Starkville High School softball seniors-- Iyuna Clark and Jocitta Buchanan
Certainly. I think Iyuna has potential as someone who can hit for power at the plate. Jocitta has some good speed that she can use to her advantage.

Any freshman stand out this year in 2a baseball?
I haven't seen any freshmen in 2A stand out but East Union's Cade Bell is only an 8th grader and wowie wow he's going to be a star for the Urchins.
We are talking about football
Monroe County juniors playing football...I'd say Amory's Z Gates is a guy to watch. He really broke out towards the end of last year for the Panthers. I'm eager to see how he does next season. Cortavious Ivy is another soon to be junior from Amory. Also Smithville's Dee Moore should have a monster season running the ball next year for the Noles. He didn't play like a sophomore last season. Same with Wesley Grier. Lastly, Hatley's Jaylon Jernighan will really need to be the playmaker for the Tigers next year since they're moving up to 3A. He's got big time potential.

Gotcha! A guy that's really coming up is East Webster's Cade Shurden. He's got tremendous potential. If Connor McKay plays baseball next year, be ready for him to go off too. Throw in EW's Luke Wilson and East Union's Zane Wilkinson and I think that's a pretty good bunch to watch for! Bruce's Wesley Ross is DEFINITELY in that conversation too.

If I was Starkville I'd worry more about what's ahead in the playoffs than next season!

Who stands out to you in the upcoming Mantachie High School football team?
Logan Pettigo jumps off the page immediately. He needs to continue to improve as the team's running back. I think Alston Dill will have a big part on the team next year wherever he lands. Mantachie needs a breakout star next year so we'll see who jumps up and takes on that role.
