What do you think about mantachie?

Big fan of The Tach. Even bigger fan of their Twitter account. Whoever is running that makes me laugh every Friday night. Anyway, I really like Dustin Carrell and that offense. They've got a great chance at winning 1-2A this year. Baldwyn isn't nearly as strong as I anticipated this year, and I think the Mustangs can give the Bearcats a run for their money. Lynn Moore has done a phenomenal job at turning around that program.

What's your opinion on how New Hope has done this year and how things will pan out for the Trojans?

I'd say they've done pretty well this year. They very well could be 4-0 right now if a couple things go their way in the Aberdeen and Columbus games. For the rest of the year though, I think it will be tough with how stout their division is. Oxford, Saltillo, and West Point are all impressive this year but they've got a great chance at getting that #4 spot in the division and make the playoffs.

What are some key components that New Albany is missing or needs to work on to be more efficient?

The offense as a whole needs to be more efficient. NA is in need of an every down back that can carry it 20-25 times but unfortunately, they don't have that this year. The defense has been keeping them in games this season so it's now up to the offense to get enough points on the board to win it.

What you think of Caledonia's Ben Marchbanks? Do you see him going to the next level?

Ben, is this you asking the question? I think he can make it at the JUCO level for sure. He's too good of an athlete not to find a spot playing after high school.

Who do you think will win the MAIS A title?

I'd probably have to go with Marshall Academy right now but DeSoto has been darn near unstoppable through their first 5 games. Still up in the air.

what is your opinion on Caledonia High?

They've got a ways to go but I think Coach Crotwell is going to turn around that football team. They've got a couple good athletes on that team in Ben Marchbanks and Josh Betts but they're still working to learn the new offense and work with the new coaches. They've definitely got potential.

Who will win between oxford. And west point

Every time I go against West Point, they prove me wrong. I want to go with Oxford, but I can't go against the Green Wave. Oxford head coach Johnny Hill had a funny comment this week saying he won't retire until he beats West Point. This is definitely his best team to do it, but I think Aeris Williams and that running attack will be enough to pull WP through. Their secondary could get lit up though by Jack Abraham and their quick-strike offense.

You like how Immanuel is doing this year?

I like the progress they're making as a team. Having JJ Swanigan is big time and KC Richardson is a playmaker on offense. They could have a shot at the MAIS A Title this season if they can rise to the occasion.

Could Water Valley make a run this year??

Most definitely. EJ Bounds can take that team all the way. Their defense is real solid as well. Will be interesting to see if they can get the best of Charleston in division play this time around because they have the team to do it this year. Louisville is still the team everyone will have to get past in 3A but Water Valley could be the only team capable of doing so.

So Louisville would win 4a right if they were still in that class? You choose Macon to come out!!!!

Definitely. If Louisville was in 4A, they'd be my pick to win the whole thing. As of now, I still like Noxubee to be the team to watch from 4A North if they can get it all together. That may change though!

How awesome have the refs been to this point in the season?

So awesome. Top-notch as always. As someone who's covered high school football in Indiana and now down here in Mississippi and Alabama, the Midwest referees can't hold a candle to the folks here in the South.

Is there anyone in your newsroom that actually gives a dag gum hoot about West Alabama High School Football?

Absolutely we do! We cover high school football in West Alabama every Friday. We'll be at Hamilton/Gordo and Aliceville/Pickens County this Friday night and we are always keeping a close eye on our teams from West Alabama. Lamar County has been outstanding through their first 4, they may be our best team in our Alabama viewing area right now.

Who is the best player named Randy in Mississippi?

If he was still playing at Caledonia, it is by far Randy Randle. One of the all-time greats.

Ultimately, What will the outcome of New Albany's very young team be? Do they stand a chance on fighting in playoffs come November?

They definitely stand a chance at making the playoffs, fighting in the playoffs will be tough. They will more than likely be making it in as a 4-seed with Lafayette, Ripley, and Rosa Fort ahead of them. That would place them against the 1-seed from Region 1, which could be Corinth again and we saw what NA did against the Warriors last week. So definitely a chance to fight since 4A north is so up in the air.

How far can Noxubee make it?

All the way to Jackson, even with such a young team. The Tigers are fortunate that 4A North is completely wide open this year. Heck, even 4A South is a toss-up. If they can get things worked out on offense with Tamorris Conner, they can repeat. The defense is still good enough to get them there. It's still up to if the offense can score.

Who will claim the 4A-2 division? Does Ripley have what it takes?

I still think 4A-2 comes down to Lafayette. When in doubt, go with the Dores. But Ripley definitely has the team to compete with DK Buford and Co. I really like Dalton James at QB, but their D will be tested in division play. Rosa Fort is a sleeper team to watch out for.

Who will win the New Albany vs North Pontotoc game this Friday? New Albany seems to be having a struggle getting this season rolling.

If it was raining heavily like last week with a nasty field, I'd give New Albany a great chance. They're missing Boston Newsome and their seniors from last year quite a bit. I like North Pontotoc to win, but I don't rule out NA keeping it close for the first 3 quarters. Trey Jolly and that NP offense will take off late.

Who's gonna win 3A

If it's not Louisville I'll be shocked. The Wildcats have been too good so far this year. Something devastating will have to happen to slow them down. Water Valley and North Pontotoc will be in the mix along with last year's state champ Hazlehurst, and you can't count out Charleston or Aberdeen.

Very soon! I may not be back there personally on Friday but we will be there to get highlights of your game against West Oktibbeha. I absolutely LOVED being at FC in week 1. One of my favorite times of the season thus far.
