Who do you think will win this weeks Spotlight Showdown?

For my money, I think it's gonna be Calhoun City at Bruce. Those fans are really piling up the votes right now and it's one of the great rivalries in the area. I still haven't been to a Skuna River game so that would be a great Spotlight Showdown one for me to go to. Grenada/Tupelo and especially Mantachie/Baldwyn are gonna make it tight right to the end.

What are your thoughts on the armory vs itawamba game

I think IAHS has the advantage right now. Amory's offense is really struggling when they get inside the red zone. Gotta be able to score once you get inside the 20. The Panthers need some continuity on the O-line but they have plenty of great skill players including Fred Garth. Their defense will have a tough time slowing down the Indians O that's really beginning to put it together now.

Oy that's hard to rank. I can give you 10 players in no order that are the ten best in my opinion:

Who is the best team in 3A region 1?

Hard to choose between Booneville and North Pontotoc right now. Mooreville is getting back to full strength so they're in the conversation as well. The Blue Devils are playing very well but I think North Pontotoc may have a bit more talent. Can't wait to see those two teams play in two weeks. Could be our Spotlight Showdown for Week 8?? We shall see!

was it really loud in Louisville stadium vs philly

I've heard that it was a great atmosphere. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to be there for that game but I heard great things.

Do you think smithville makes a good run in 1A considering the small size of the team?

They definitely can. 1A north is wide open this year. It's 1A south that is the strength so getting to Jackson is plausible but winning it all will be a whole different story.

Mantachie vs. Baldwyn game? What's your thought on it? Winner takes the division?

I think so. Walnut is in the conversation but I think the coaching and the talent from both the Mustangs and Bearcats have set themselves apart from the rest of the division. That's why it is such a crucial game for both teams because a win means they are in control of their own destiny to take the division title.

What do you think about the RB/QB brothers quinshea and Keshon from Hamilton?

Quick and powerful. Those two are the ones that will have to lead Hamilton if they want to take a shot at winning 1-1A.

In your opinion, do you see any junior or senior from one of the 3 Monroe County schools going to play at the next level? If so, who?

I think Aberdeen's Josh Williams and Sammie Burroughs will catch on somewhere. Caledonia has a couple athletes that can do the same and Amory's Fred Garth is too skilled to not make it somewhere. Smithville's Drew Lann has a good chance to catch on somewhere with his size. Hamilton has a couple guys as well. I know that's more than the 3 you probably were thinking but I'm a little ahead of the game!

Is North Pontotoc's defense good enough to take them far if the offense doesn't change?

I think so. They're under-sized but they have enough speed to keep up with the teams they're playing. It's not just the defense for the Vikings, it has to be a total team effort to get a W and be consistent from the opening kickoff to the final play of the game.

What do you think about the Falkner Eagles?

I've been high on them all season, but they have been their own worst enemy. They dominated Hamilton yet they kept the Lions in the game and never could really put away Houlka until the end of the game last Thursday. Jeramie Lawrence can single-handedly take them far but he needs his supporting cast to step up.

What about Tyler Hood from Smithville?? He's good ain't he?

Tyler, is this you? Hah anyway. I really like Tyler. He's not the biggest guy out on the field but he's always in the middle of the play making something happen. Great leader as well as a senior.

3-5. Everybody else

What did you think about the mooreville/south pontotoc game? And what are some things Mooreville needs to work on?

I thought Mooreville was really sharp. That was the first time I've seen the Troopers first hand and I really like the team they have. Their front four has to do a better job in the trenches. South Pontotoc was able to run their quarterback right up the middle and get chunks of yards on every play. Their O-Line still needs to gel a little more about I really like their skill guys especially Chris Rucker.

Is Carthage good? We have to play them and I haven't heard about them

They've been the beneficiary of a pretty week schedule to begin the season but they're still 5-0. Doesn't matter how you get there, undefeated is undefeated. They're beatable, but they're also a lot better than people will give them credit for.

Do you think Smithville will beat Coffeyville?

With the way Coffeeville is playing right now, it's a toss-up. The Pirates are absolutely blowing out teams in division play but it helps the Noles have them at home. I keep saying that Falkner and Smithville will decide that division, but now I think Coffeeville is in that mix with the Eagles and Seminoles.

Amazing. I love being at LHS on Friday nights. One of the underrated Friday night destinations for any high school football fan in the state of Mississippi.

Do you think North pontotoc has a legitimate chance to go deep in playoffs?

I still believe they do, but I'm still waiting to see the Vikings put together a full 4-quarter game. South Pontotoc was probably their closest but they've had lapses throughout the season. With all that talent they have, they really should be a dangerous team in the postseason but I'm in wait and see mode on the V-Men.

Who is the best Sophomore in 4-A?

I could probably tell you the best junior or senior but from what I've witnessed, the best sophomore I've seen in 4A is Noxubee County's Jeffery Simmons. Dude is a MONSTER on the defensive line. He's just as tall as me, and I'm 6'4. The sky is the limit for him and his future.

How far do you think Saltillo will go in the playoffs?

I think they have to beat West Point in the regular season and get that 2-seed from Region 1 to avoid facing either Callaway or Pearl in the first round. If they can do that, then they may have a shot at making a little run but if they run into the Chargers or Pirates, it won't be easy to advance. Those two teams are gonna be tough to beat.
