" 3rd: Supports Malay reps but against Hirzi cos he still IN THE CLOSET. " erm I do not support him being a malay representative and i do not support him being a closeted gay and yet being an ambassador in an event that strives for the support of "the FREEDOM to love". keyword: freedom. ironic.

.

If Hirzi is so scared of the public backlash, then maybe he shouldn't take up the responsibility of being an ambassador? At most he will just get even more hate... But then isn't tt the aim of PinkDot, to FIGHT for a better future? If he so scared, then hide in his closet and don't join in the fight

A fair comment. Letting this publish too.

Just read up on PinkDot and apparently Daren Tan also ambassador?? That one also in the closet and obv doing it for publicity to revive his failing showbiz career! Seriously, all these closeted ambassador dudes need to do some soul searching!

Posting your opinion up.

To that anon regarding hirzi being a closeted gay: If you see hirzi already receiving tons of hate about becoming ambassadors what about if he comes out to the public about him being gay? Wouldn't that make matters worse?

Good comment. Go think about that, other anon.

I came across tons and tons of hates on twitter directed to munah and hirzi, it disgusts me to see how people are not being open-minded. Plus they are not leading munahhirzi's lives and they should just let them do wtv they want. It is annoying to see malay teens acting pious online smh

We are always quicker in spreading hate than to pause a while to challenge our own views.
Despite all the hate, know that not many have any substantial challenge against anything. It's just blabber. We should learn know when to tune it out.
At the end of the day, it's mostly noise.

Do you think something ironic is always bad?

I think there's humor to be found in irony. That's what makes things funny, anyway.

Lol how can u think the anons are the same person when they are expressing diff views? 1st anon: Doesn't know anything and just asking. 2nd: Against Hirzi cos he is MALAY. 3rd: Supports Malay reps but against Hirzi cos he still IN THE CLOSET. P.S: 1st anon might be the same as 2nd/3rd anon

What I meant was, as far as my end is concerned, all questions that come in are treated the same. You're all the same people.

Ok so what if Hirzi is in fact gay but he is a closeted one. Do you think it is ironic?

It does seem ironic doesn't it? I dislike it when that happens.
But then I also have to tell myself, they probably have their own reasons for staying in. It's frustrating, to say the least, but it should always be a person's own prerogative if he wants to come out publicly or not.

they are like 3 anons (incl. me) asking you questions at the same time omg i am confused...

To me you all are the same. Haha!

Having Hirzi is a gd decision, IF Hirzi accepted the job for the rite reasons; promote acceptance rather than promote himself. For a gay man to rep a gay event but still hide in the closet just suggests to the public tt either we aren't taking this srsly or we are too ashamed to publicly come out

That is entirely up to him, and these are all assumptions.
Posting your question so that you can have your viewpoint seen.

HAHA I have alot of qns because honestly I support pink dot but I just think that them being ambassadors is way unnecessary and other malays are generally far worse than I am being rn on your ask.fm so yeah.........haha and that will conjure more negativity. Oh well thanks for replying 2 me!!!:)

Ultimately, it gets the issue of LGBTs directly involved with the Malay community, who have been very quiet. Looking at the bigger picture, I think it's very worth it. Get them talking.
You've been rather pleasant, don't worry. You're expressing your opinions, I'm expressing mine.

again i would like to reiterate that they could still achieve their aim if they could just attend the event and post about it on their social media with a caption talking about pink dot. being an ambassador of this means they are influential n that could be recieved -ly by the community they are frm

They could, but Pinkdot would give a force multiplier, in a sense, to get their message out. If you can spread a message more efficiently, then I think why not? It's very practical.
The judgement from the Malay community is of course, expected. That's just a by-product.

Okay, on the part of the organizers, they /probably/ APPROACHED them two eventhough they know they will face backlash, when last year there was the emergence of the wear white campaign. They foresee the reactions of their actions but still do it anyway. Brave? or seeking attention? ..

Why do we so quickly assume 'attention seeking'?
Is 'attention seeking' even 'bad' when it's seeking attention to a social cause? This is a very Asian communistic thinking.
Again, I cannot speak on behalf of the organisers. Though I believe ambassadors are approached, rather than volunteered.
I still think the decision to have Munah and Hirzi included this year was a good one. Look at you yourself, starting to ask questions and forming discussions. That is much better than keeping silent.

(contd) being an ambassador, then he really isn't setting a good example. I think people are pissed at him cos it just seems like he is using Pinkdot for self-promotion and not genuinely fighting for what the whole event is about... (end)

That I cannot accurately comment because I simply don't know.

Contd: Ivan Heng at least is openly gay so he was a great choice to be an ambassador since he is showing all the gay dudes in SG it is perfectly fine to come out publicly... I mean to be fair, Hirzi is entitled to come out whenever he wants. But if he chooses to take the responsibility of (contd)

Yes you echo some of my sentiments correctly. What is with the fixation of race and religion in the Malay community?
In this aspect, the Christians are more progressive.

To be fair, I think the other anon's questions regarding Hirzi are pretty valid, and no it's not because he is a Malay... Seriously Malays are so sensitive -.- Patricia Mok etc are obviously straight and so they would just be considered straight allies. Hirzi on the other hands, is obviously gay, an

.

Well, they are the first muslim ambassadors. In fact, the first Malay and Arab ambassadors. So obviously everything synergizes to form a big question mark. What are their motives being ambassadors when they could have just attended the event to show support? I hope you get where I am coming from.

Then I have to ask; why the heavy distinction on the fact that they are the first ____ ? Has anyone ever questioned the first Christian, the first Buddhist, the first non-arts industry ambassador?
It is this fixation on race and religion for Muslims that always rub me the wrong way. People keep stressing on the fact that they are MUSLIMS and MALAYS and in the next breath wonder why they are discriminated against. You treat all races and religion equally. Highlighting this distinction will only separate Malay Muslims from the others.
What their intentions are, I don't know, cause I am not them. For all you know it never was about race, but a genuine want to reach out to the troubled children, the ones in their darkest times, to give them strength to push through. That transcends all barriers of race and religion and socio-economic status. I think that would be very noble of them. Pinkdot, together with their wide fan base, would be a very good platform for them.
The next question you should ask yourself is 'What are Pinkdot ambassadors for?'. Then do your research.

Do you like your anons here?

They've actually been rather pleasant. I really enjoy some of the questions put forth. It nice to have a discussion.

Heh sorry, I am asking you because you kinda know alot about pink dot! I mean being an ambassador is to "represent" smth. So what does the malay duo represent, and who's voices are they channelling? the malay-muslims? I wna to know their aim n they seem rather ambiguous about it. wat dyou think?

Have you tried asking Pinkdot or them theirselves?
Have you ever wondered who Ivan Heng, Patricia Mok, Lim Yu Beng 'represented'?
You must apply the same question you have of Munah and Hirzi to other ambassadors. Otherwise I have the idea that it is simply the fact that they're Malay, do these questions spring forth.

Also, do you think as ambassadors they have the right to not disclose their sexuality and not "come out"? I mean it will be ironic since it is pink dot and pink dot is all about being okay with your orientation.

I don't think being an ambassador is equivalent as 'coming out of the closet'. They're just that. You can have a straight ally too, why not? That has happened anyway in the past.
Whether they decide to use this opportunity to come out at the same time is up to them.
Go ask the organisers. They would have a better idea. I don't.

but in the pink dot 2015 video, they showed a snippet of an interview with hirzi and munah and then it shows them laughing and hugging each other. isn't that implying one of them is gay? so is hirzi the gay one and munah is the one who is "embracing" him? hmm.

... I think you're reading too much into a simple hug.

What is your criteria of 'ready'?

Amongst many things, the willingness to sacrifice my time, work, interests, and values for the benefit of my partner. It is easy for me to say 'compromise', in theory, but in reality I'm still in the mindset of 'either you keep up with me or don't slow me down.'
Sure, there are periods where I cruise along in life, waiting for the next jump, and this is the best period whereby I can laze around and talk with a partner all day long. However, once I feel it's go-time and pursue a goal, I tend to disappear for a long while, obsessed with my new muse.

Why aren't you getting back with that particular ex then?

I don't think I'm ready for any relationship at this point of time. Feelings are one thing. I have to look at it objectively as well. Objectively, I don't meet my 'criteria' of 'ready'.
