What about the consequences/disadvantages of it? For example, I heard that if you declare in the army, then you can only buy a house after the age of 30 or something.
Apparently that's a myth or something. The kind of record that tacks onto you after declaring is medical in nature. 302 is categorised under mental illness. This is also personal private information. So I'm guessing unless an Organization really needed to know your medical background, people can't access it.
But, I may be wrong. I'm not entirely sure of the repercussions.
By nature of the law, however, singles are not allowed to purchase flats until the age of 35. So most gay men get their flats after 35... which frankly if you ask me, is better. Generally you'd be more stable in your career by then, so the upkeep should be less of a hassle than if you were 22 and trying to start a career, AND a family, AND a HDB.
