My PES status did drop, and I wasn't required to stay in camp. But my vocation wasn't a stay in one anyway.
However this was like 6 years ago. Last I heard even if you declare, you can still be posted into combat units. I'm guessing the military has wisen up to NSFs declaring for the sake of malingering. It happens.
