- the wrong hands. Such as the school sexuality education programme which is outsourced to organisation linked to Christianity. Do you think it would be a better idea to create more awareness from ground up by advocates instead?

Aiden
Why not both? Formal and advocates.

Thanks for the long and prompt reply :) well Education may seem like the best possible choice, Sg's current method of education may not actually bring about that change we want to see. (With people being more open minded and thinking more logically) There is also possibility that it may fall into -

Or it could be a possibility that Singaporeans are less 'afraid' of the govt and are more educated and vocal about what they want or don't. What do you think would be the best way for Sg to strive towards greater equality? Given that Muslims/Christians may strongly oppose.

Education.
Many of these anti-LGBT arguments stem from sheer lack of knowledge.
It is always:
- Holy book says so
- gay marriage will lead to bestiality
- gay couples can't make good parents
- gays are pedophiles
- conservative values
- Asian values
- homosexuality is a choice
Many of these points have been debated and argued out countless times, and the results are always in favor of LGBTs. Scientific, logical, research.
Now, I say education because I think aside from literally the lack of knowledge, Singapore has the problem of living in its own world, and the common person has less interest to think critically and challenge their own views. We have a society whereby one end is worldly experienced, and the other that believes the world has always and will always be what it is now. Whatever they grew up in, the environment, it is 'right', and change is bad.
They do not bother to learn history, nor seek knowledge outside of academics.
The solution, and not just for gay rights, is to have a knowledge-hungry culture that can also think critically.
It is difficult to change the minds of your 40yo aunties who still think like a 14yo. But with the young you can. Whatever our education system has changed recently to suit modern forward mentalities will only bear fruit 10-20 years from now.

I agree with that. But could it be that the newer generation of ministers are less bold to take the unpopular decisions road? This is in comparison to the previous generation under the leadership of LKY whereby measures were taken to alter socialpolitical matters without any consensus from public.

Aiden
That is something I would agree on. Personally, they might want to be bold, but they're bogged by the political process or environment. That's also a possibility.

Hi, I've just read your Instagram post, It is really nicely written and clear :) But I was wondering, since our govt have always been known to make bold and unpopular decisions, have you thought about why in this case they aren't making one to create greater equality?

Aiden
Our government is quick when it comes to matters of the country's economy. That isn't a complain. That's a praise in some way.
When it comes to sociopolitical matters, they would rather have major support.

Do you think that Pink Dot 2011 recieved a greater turnup because of the video directed by Boo Jun Feng? Do you think his video evoked emotional connection and thus it went viral, leading more people to be "educated" about the event? ty

I don't know. I haven't seen any PD videos since the last I was in it.

hey, do you smoke? your breathing behind the camera on snapchat genuinely worries me. not tryna be kpo or anything, it was a glaring sound.

You try trekking up for 8hours, running around lugging the weight of a full army pack and see if you don't heave like that.

In SG, we call both as baju kurung. In Msia, they call baju melayu for guys and baju kurung for girls. As long as we understand which is which, it's fine.

There you go

Kebaya is the tight one...kurung is the baggy one...😂😂😂 HAHA Yea...Im pretty sure...maybe its different in sg...😅

I don't know either.

Audi, 150,000 people will die in the next 24 hours. What if you were one of them? Are you ready? What do you see Death as - the end of all experience, or a transition to another body/dimension? {Your answer may be used for The Truth Contest website}

Yes.

Baju kurung for females...Baju melayu for guys...😂 At least in Malaysia it is...Kurung is the baggy skirt one

I thought baju kebaya was the exclusively female one. I don't know.

Do u get yourself new baju kurung for Hari Raya ? Just for the purpose of celebration

Nope. I hate the cutting of the usual baju kurung. I have one that's rather nice. A mix between a modern blazer and a baju kurung. But it's so elegant that I can't use it for the third year.

TRUTH. anyway how long do you take to type all the replies?

I don't know. I see the question, I type a reply in a stream of consciousness and move on with life.

yeah. electrocution and that thing that looks like what seems to be a gun look very painful. as for me, i would say that being a vegetarian as a way to "boycott" meat production has little to no effect in the industry, seeing how Kale costs the same as a whole kampung chicken here in SG.

A bolt gun. What it does is render the brain useless in a split second, which theoretically would be painless and instant. Though some would argue this causes this body go into shock and releases toxins into the flesh.
I was shooting for a huge supermarket chain today. Hung around the back area, and it's amazing the amount of goods coming in endlessly the whole day. Boxes upon boxes of fruits and meat. You're talking about hundreds or thousands of dollars worth of goods on a simple trolley, in and out the whole day. It's not difficult to imagine the sheer size of the production process required behind that; from growing, harvesting, processing, packaging and delivery. Easily a few plantations and farms. And this was just one day of operations. Now think of the frequency of these goods coming in per month. Then a year, and know this is just one supermarket chain outlet. Calculate the amount needed to stock the whole country. Then think about the size of Malaysia. It is crazy. A huge intricate machine. It's really amazing.
The meat and produce industry is pretty scary when you think of the size of it. How else can you keep up with demand? Slaughter slaughter slaughter.

that is true. it is scary because most of us don't know what happened in the factories and farms before they are being displayed like that. animals could have lived in poor conditions, or grew up being injected with chemicals to speed up growth. (but we still eat it anyway, so that's sad and ironic)

Yes. I've seen plenty of halal slaughter, one of which I would actually recommend to kill an animal, but even then it's not always pretty. It is very very difficult to 'properly' do a kosher slaughter and keep up with factory demands.
The basics really is to fully calm the animal down first, then swiftly slice the two jugular veins and throat, leaving the spinal cord intact. The latter action is relatively easy. Any sane person can do it. The former, however, I'm on the fence about it.
60 over cows I've seen slaughtered within a week. All of them trash about, struggle to live, their crying bellows are nothing but huge exhalations, with the absence of the vocal cord. Science says its painless. But I don't know. I can never fully say any slaughter of animals is 'humane' after that. Animals die the same way all across the board, same as humans. But we all accept it that eating meat is a reality, and we give in because we're used to it.
I won't go as far to say that nobody should eat meat. No. That's unrealistic at this point of time, and even I can't commit to that. The least you could do is to slaughter the animal as quickly and as painlessly as possible. One moment, consciousness, the next, nothingness. Like the point you fall into a dream. You don't know when, what, it just happens.

i think it is wrong that you are comparing the qurban and that dog festival in China as if they are the same. the animals slaughtered in the former are not kidnapped, tortured or roasted alive. there is a difference.

When you compare it between treatment of animals between the two, obviously it is not the same. That was not the comparison I was making.
What I am pointing is the claim that it is 'mass murder', on the basis that it is cute fluffy dogs. Maybe it wasn't clear. The tweet wasn't even 140 characters. So there's a lot of room left for interpretation.
My stance on this matter is that the very least, the slaughter of these dogs should be treated the same way we slaughter livestock.
I don't see any difference between a slaughtered dog chopped up into pieces for display and this.
i think it is wrong that you are comparing the qurban and that dog festival in
