Which do think is more brutal ancient or modern warfare? Which is scarier for the individual? From the perspective of the "infantry" in both cases and during times of war. War sounds very ambiguous to me so I'm going to specify. The Punic Wars for ancient and WWI and WWII for modern.
there are a lot of factors. ancient soldiers were hardened killers compared to today.
modern war in general is scarier, as you could die from a stray shell at any moment, but combat itself was scarier in ancient times.

Nothing really needs to MAKE someone spiritual. A spiritual person is usually someone raised around the idea of open-minded belief, but they don't like structure.
