A friend has depressions and he started to read the Bible out of desperation. But even worse is his conclusion: He is now convinced that god is real and an asshole, who hates us all. He thinks he'll go to hell. He is a great guy and it hurts seeing him like this. What can I do to help him? Any Idea?

Show him some videos debunking the bible and debunking god's existence.

Have you ever considered lying about your lack of belief because it makes many relationships easier? Of course, I am asking the man who makes a living partly off of his lack of belief, but this question is tailored more toward your past.

Not lying, no.
But I will avoid bringing it up, and play-along when people say grace, but no need to pretend you're something you're not.

Do you think that when theists (specifically the Roman Catholic Church) take new scientific explanations for phenomena (such as evolution) and accept them as the best explanations as long as they can still stick their God in between are committing an Ad Hoc Hypothesis?

Maybe, but as-long as they're not trying to deny facts in-favor of their book, I'm good with that.
I have a lot better reasons to hate the Catholic church.

Do you read atheist literature like, God is not Great, The End of Faith, Letter to a Christian nation, Breaking the Spell, etc. and which, if any, have impacted your views the most?

I've read a lot of Hitchen's work, and I like Dawkins' books too.

so I was approached by a Christian asking if I wanted a flyer, I said "no thank you, I'm an atheist" to which he replied "than you need to accept god". I stood there in silence after he said that, but what would've been a good, logical, and respectful response to this? thanks, love your vids btw <3

In your left behind review, I couldn't help but notice all of the Hot Toys Iron Man figures in the background of the intro. So am I to assume that you collect?

I have 4 Iron-Man armours and about 6 other figures.

In one of your last videos you corrected someone for writing "making money off" saying that it should be "off of". Do you believe that that's correct grammar, not merely common American vernacular?

She was pretending to be a lawyer. A lawyer wouldn't use "Common" vernacular.
The point I was making was that she was clearly lying about being a legal rep.

In your early videos you speak of becoming very religious and moving to cultish communtiy. In a later video yaddressed a guy making fun of gay people and you said you don't watch lesbian porn but for other reasons. Did you become very religious to not be gay.

I said I have a PROBLEM with lesbian porn, but a different kind of problem...

It is confusing... it seems that the reason they never mention all three "inventors" in the same articles is a very political decision.

what would you tell christians who belive in evolution and the big bang and quantum physics etc. but belive that the whole creation story and noah's ark were more metaphors and god exists in a spiritual presence? or that we can't actually sense god?

Those are the kinds of Xtians I like.
I'm not here to disprove religion, I only care about making sure people don't peddle lies and superstition as "knowledge."

You frequently mention abiogenesis in your videos refuting creationists, but I've never seen you talk about it in depth. I know the format of your show revolves around refutation, but do you have any plans to expand upon ideas you've mentioned in passing?

Abiogenesis isn't something we know a whole lot about. We've see each individual step happen in lab-experiments, but we've never seen a cascade of steps progress to completion.
I'm sure one day I'll go more into it.

As a hypothetical, say all religions are abolished and the world took on a secular stand. This won't prevent idiots from doing bad things. But do you think that in this world, there will be less anger and conflict?

I wish I could say an astounding "YES" to that, but it's impossible to tell.
There are so many people who are only good because of religion.

Just wanted to say I love your videos! Im only 15 so I have decided to become a little skeptic my self. I escaped religion a year ago, and I wanted to ask. How did you deal with your religions parents? #gocanada

I was already living on my own by the time I became atheist, so they didn't really have any way to stop me. For the most part I remain respectful to their beliefs, as-long as it doesn't conflict with basic human decency to do so.

You should always vote... even if just to keep that one guy from winning, the nut who brought a contract to the debate proclaiming that he was chosen by Jesus.

If you honestly believe your life would be worse if you shared your opinions with your family, then don't bother doing it until you can move out.
No reason to fight with people you have to live with, unless you're trying to get them to stop doing something heinous.

Well, there is nothing about those beliefs that conflicts with atheism. Atheism is just a lack of belief in god or gods, not supernatural or spiritualism or aliens or anything like that.
That's why I go the extra mile and call myself a skeptic. A skeptic doesn't believe anything that has no proof.
